About Campbell Express
The year 1900 marked the establishment of Campbell’s Express. Mr. Campbell would collect sales from local shops in Pitman and Glassboro, New Jersey, by walking through Philadelphia and tying the packages to his body with rope to prevent spilling. He then transported the consignments by train to Pitman and personally delivered them to the neighborhood stores.
In 1918, Mr. Campbell purchased his first vehicle and renamed the business Campbell’s Auto Express to indicate his newfound mode of transportation. Mr. Randall Worthington took over the company in 1923 and used one or two vehicles to run it. Campbell’s Auto Express was able to get a Certificate of Public Necessity and Convenience, along with the ICC 109 certificate, one of the tiniest in use, after the Motor Carrier Act was passed in 1935.
Louis G. Hannum, Sr., and his wife Helen purchased the company in 1945, along with a fleet of used Ford vehicles. The ownership was later passed on to Cheryl Gallagher and Mike Hannum, the couple’s children, in 2005. Today, Esther Gallagher and William Messenger run the business together.
Throughout its history, Campbell’s has expanded from a single truck operation to a company with 145 employees and 78 trucks. Despite its growth, the company remains true to its roots by offering personalized service, high-quality workmanship, and affordable pricing. The company’s single terminal facility provides overnight deliveries within a 150-mile radius of Pitman, and customers can track their shipments online through the tracking system.
